God Pushes You Toward a Deeper Faith

My dad sent this to me awhile back.  Simply because when he read it he was thinking of me and so it was sent as encouragement.  How often do I think of someone when experiencing or reading something and how often I never let them know.  This simple act of sending me a personal email made a huge impact on me, and my goal is to take the time to encourage others in the same way.  My dad may have sent it, but God put it in his hands and on his heart to send my way.

By Rick Warren:

"This means tremendous joy to you, I know, even though you are temporarily harassed by all kinds of trials and temptations. This is no accident-it happens to prove your faith, which is infinitely more valuable than gold . . ." (1 Peter 1:6-7 PH).

When we finally come to a place where the difficulties become so bad, where we've reached our limit, where we've tried everything and exhausted all our options, it is then that God begins a mighty work through us." In order to build your faith, God will give you a dream; then he'll urge you to make a decision; but then he'll allow a delay, because in the delay he matures you and prepares you for what is to come. The truth is you'll have difficulties while God delays. This isn't because he doesn't care about you or that he's forgotten your circumstances; rather, it's one of the ways he pushes you toward the deep end of faith. As God delays, you'll face two types of difficulties: Circumstances and Critics. This is a natural part of life. God designed it this way because he knows we grow stronger when facing adversity and opposition. When Moses led the children of Israel out of Egypt into the desert toward the Promised Land, he had one problem after another. First there was no water. Then there was no food. Then there were a bunch of complainers. Then there were poisonous snakes. Moses was doing what God wanted him to do, but he still had problems. David was anointed king, and then for the next several years he was hunted down by Saul. Joseph had a dream of becoming a ruler, yet he was sold into slavery and thrown into prison on a false charge where he languished, forgotten. Imagine the difficulties Noah had building a floating zoo! The Bible says that when Moses died, Joshua was appointed the new leader. Moses led the people across the desert and then Joshua led them into the Promised Land. Did he get the easy part? The Bible says that when the Israelites entered the Promised Land there were giants in the land. Even in the Promised Land there were problems! God does this because he is building our faith and character. When we finally come to a place where the difficulties become so bad, where we've reached our limit, where we've tried everything and exhausted all our options, it is then that God begins a mighty work through us: ". . . I know, even though you are temporarily harassed by all kinds of trials and temptations. This is no accident-it happens to prove your faith, which is infinitely more valuable, than gold . . . ." (1 Peter 1:6-7 PH)

Isn't it ironic...

The following was copied from the WI department of transportation website...

The following documents are acceptable proof of Wisconsin residency when they include your name and current Wisconsin residence street address:
A utility bill for water, gas, electricity or land-line telephone service at least 30 days old.

The WI law says that when you move from out of state, you must obtain a Wisconsin drivers license within the first 30 days of living here.

hmmm...

What a weekend!

My mom came down to keep me company this weekend, and I think we're both going to need another weekend asap to recup!

Friday was dinner at The Old Fashioned, a super club restaurant downtown that makes food local to Wisconsin.  We also did some shopping down State Street, and I found some super cute vintage stores that I cannot wait to visit again ;)

Saturday started with the Farmers Market around capitol square which had hundreds of booths.  Our basket included corn on the cob, tomatoes, scones, flowers, a monster cookie, hot and spicy cheese bread from Stella's and carrots.  Nothing like eating food that was picked at 5 am that morning...  We then took a tour of the capitol, shopped at a few Scandinavian stores in Mt. Horeb, took a tour of my work campus and got chocolate banana custard from Michaels.  The highlight of the day was our evening at the American Players Theater.  We packed a picnic dinner and drove to Spring Green to watch Shakespeare's "As You Like It" in an outdoor theater.  The weather was perfect, the acting was brilliant and the company was superb!

Sunday included a great message at church and a beautiful walk through the Arboretum.

As far as moms go, mines pretty terrific!

Epicnic

Our company party surpassed my expectations and after working here for a couple weeks, my expectations are now pretty high.  We had an afternoon picnic catered with delicious food, a root beer fountain, climbing wall, petting zoo, tug of war and potato sack race heated competition, face painting, music and more.  Here are a few pictures from my phone that put into color some of our fun...
Cow Chip Throwing Contest.

We spent the next part of the day on Lake Mendota.  Gorgeous.

How to lose 5 lbs in 1 day

This weekend has absolutely flown by!  I'll be posting about some of the specific events that occupied the weekend later this week but lets just say that it's 9:30 pm, and I was ready for bed at 8.

So people have been asking me what I love about Madison and in the midst of many other things, I tend to list off all the outdoor activities and bike trails that are ever abundant.  And then someone had to call me out and ask if I've actually biked on the paths yet.  crap.  So today was the day!  Just looking for an easy ride to get back into it;  I got my bike ready, and I drove downtown to ride around Lake Monona on a route that was listed.  I rode awhile in one direction and all of a sudden the path was no longer marked.  So I turned around and rode the opposite direction thinking I might be able to follow it easier.  It was.  Until I got to the opposite side of the lake.  Somehow I got off the path multiple times and hit the most treacherous hills.  I continued to go on and off the path- don't ask me how (getting a little annoyed that I was doubling the mileage I thought I'd be putting in).  There was one point in which the road was under construction and no way around it so because the gravel looked like it was packed- I dove in.  Literally.  The gravel was not packed, my bike sunk, and I couldn't unclip in time to bail properly.  Believe me, I was laughing at myself.  And so was the guy who was walking behind me.  I'd look like an idiot if I told you that I forgot to bring my water bottle on this ride that started in the full heat of the day. Too late.  There is a light at the end of the tunnel. I passed two incredible ice cream parlors with homemade ice cream on my ride.  If I would have remembered my money, that would have been awesome!

I'm lost...

without my Garmin.  Seriously one of the best gifts my padres have graced me with.  Now... receiving a Garmin when living in small town Iowa may have seemed ridiculous, but I have saved so much time with that thing living in a new town!  Downfall- it can't find reception in parking garages so until I'm clear of the concrete- I start panic mode on whether to turn right or left until it finds signal ;)  I should probably start taking it to work to find my way around the maze they call our intergalactic headquarters!  (would I look foolish roaming the halls navigating with gps? No more so than when I passed the same guys office four times and he finally asked me laughingly if I knew where I was going!) So for the Garmin.  Love it.

MadTown

So I told myself that I wouldn't let anyone know I was blogging until I was sure that I would be consistent. Obviously you can see from the dates of past posts that I was an epic fail!  Now that I'm living in a new town and ALL of my friends and family are at a distance, I thought a blog might help keep everyone up to date in case you're interested in the shenanigans going on in my life.  So for today... I'm a blogger.  Tomorrow?  We'll just have to wait and see!

I've been a citizen of Madison, WI for a week and a half now.  Yeah!  I'm working for a cool company in the Travel Dept. (cool company as in industry leader, innovative and totally fun!) I'm basically acting as an agent for our employees, recruits and customers.  When people ask me where I'm from- I tell them the midwest.  That should be fair enough since I started in IL, MI, MN, IA and now WI.  It's very humbling to come here not knowing anyone.  It really makes you take a look at how you're perceived because you have no reputation to hold onto.  I've become pretty good at attending events alone and jumping on people begging them to be my friends. literally. I'd say first impressions have been ok so far...!

As for Madison, I'm diggin it!  You can't go a day without a cool free events here or there and the cultural vibe is brilliant.  I'll post pics and even maybe some reviews later but if you've never been here, or even if you have, you need to come visit me!! (please?  pretty please?!)
