This weekend has absolutely flown by! I'll be posting about some of the specific events that occupied the weekend later this week but lets just say that it's 9:30 pm, and I was ready for bed at 8.
So people have been asking me what I love about Madison and in the midst of many other things, I tend to list off all the outdoor activities and bike trails that are ever abundant. And then someone had to call me out and ask if I've actually biked on the paths yet. crap. So today was the day! Just looking for an easy ride to get back into it; I got my bike ready, and I drove downtown to ride around Lake Monona on a route that was listed. I rode awhile in one direction and all of a sudden the path was no longer marked. So I turned around and rode the opposite direction thinking I might be able to follow it easier. It was. Until I got to the opposite side of the lake. Somehow I got off the path multiple times and hit the most treacherous hills. I continued to go on and off the path- don't ask me how (getting a little annoyed that I was doubling the mileage I thought I'd be putting in). There was one point in which the road was under construction and no way around it so because the gravel looked like it was packed- I dove in. Literally. The gravel was not packed, my bike sunk, and I couldn't unclip in time to bail properly. Believe me, I was laughing at myself. And so was the guy who was walking behind me. I'd look like an idiot if I told you that I forgot to bring my water bottle on this ride that started in the full heat of the day. Too late. There is a light at the end of the tunnel. I passed two incredible ice cream parlors with homemade ice cream on my ride. If I would have remembered my money, that would have been awesome!
